Born in 1161 in the Kingdom of Jerusalem, Baldwin IV entered a world defined by conflict, political intrigue, and constant threats from powerful enemies. As a child, he displayed intelligence, determination, and a strong sense of duty. However, at a young age, he was diagnosed with leprosy, a disease that would gradually weaken his body throughout his life.

Despite his condition, Baldwin refused to let illness define him. In 1174, at just thirteen years old, he became King of Jerusalem. Many doubted whether a young ruler suffering from a debilitating disease could protect the kingdom. Yet Baldwin possessed a strength that went far beyond physical ability—an unwavering will to fulfill his duty.

Throughout his reign, Baldwin led armies, forged alliances, and defended Jerusalem against overwhelming threats. His most famous victory came in 1177 at the Battle of Montgisard, where he led a vastly outnumbered force against the army of Saladin.
